Autocad has been a old and the best software for engineering and architectural drawings. It has been there since the DOS operating system. However in today’s windows operating system, all the autocad commands can be started either from the top menu bar or toolbars or side menu. However this requires remembering the symbols or waiting for the tool tip. Also searching the menu takes time. Since a person is using mouse , he has to be fluent in click or double click or right click methods. Thus in short using mouse is a little bit time consuming.
However as an alternative one can use keyboard for issuing commands, which work much faster. The advantages are
- You need not be speed typist.
- You need not remember the keys by heart.
- You need not look up and down and search screen symbols.
- All you need to know the spelling of the command or going further, only first 2 / 3 letters of the command spelling
Let us see how :-
• If you want move command type M and press enter.
• If you want arc command type A and press enter.
• If you want circle command type C and press enter.
And so on……….
If you want to find out which letter is for which command just type all the letters one by one , press enter and read at the bottom of the screen , which command is started. ESC cancels any active command. Out of 26 alphabets 22 alphabets are used. Any letter not used will show “unknown command” message at the bottom. So go ahead and learn these keyboard shortcuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next level :--
If any two commands have same starting letter in their spellings, use second letter from one of the spellings.
e.g. pressing M and enter will start move command , but pressing MI and enter will start Mirror command.
Extending the same rule further, if three commands start with the same letter, try using third letter in one of them.
So keep experimenting and in a short time you will become a faster operator!!!!
