Object Selection
All the above editing commands require selecting the objects. Autocad has various methods for selecting the objects. These are listed and described below:
A) Select by pointing or by clicking with the mouse.
B) Select by Window : Here the user has to draw rectangle covering the objects to be selected. It is drawn from left to right. Note the selecting box appears in the form of a continuous line. Also, only those objects which fall fully within the window get selected.
C) Selection by Crossing: This is similar to window method except that here you drag the selection box from right to left. Also all the objects which are either inside the window or are intersected/crossed by window are selected. Please note that the selection window appears as a dotted line.
D) Fence method : Here Autocad prompts you to select two points which represent the fence line. Any object crossed by the fence line gets selected.
E) Polygon method: In this method you are prompted to click points which form a polygon and objects crossed or covered by the polygon are selected.
The two alternatives in this method are wpolygon or cploygon which are similar to the earlier window or crossing methods except that here the selecting boundary can be a polygon , even an irregular one, instead of a rectangle.
F) Last: Pressing the key L_at the selection prompt selects the last drawn object.
G) Previous: Pressing the key P at the selection prompt selects the objects which were selected in the last used command.
